The centerpiece of every Swedish celebration.

Few dishes represent Swedish celebrations more than Smörgåstårta.

Despite its name, this is not a sweet cake.

Instead, it's a magnificent savory sandwich cake built from layers of soft bread and luxurious seafood fillings, then decorated as beautifully as any celebration cake.

Whether served for birthdays, graduations, weddings, Midsummer, or summer gatherings, Smörgåstårta is one of Sweden's most beloved buffet dishes.

At Swedish Cravings, we've refined every layer to create a sandwich cake that's lighter, fresher, and more elegant while remaining unmistakably Swedish.

The Story Behind Smörgåstårta

Smörgåstårta first became popular during the 1960s and quickly became a centerpiece of Swedish celebrations.

Inspired by the open-faced sandwiches (smörgåsar) that Swedes have enjoyed for generations, the idea was simple:

Create one beautiful layered centerpiece that could feed everyone.

Today almost every Swedish family has their own version.

Some use roast beef.

Others use ham.

Many feature seafood.

Our Signature version celebrates Sweden's finest coastal ingredients.

The Swedish Cravings Secret

Most Smörgåstårtor fail because every layer tastes the same.

Ours doesn't.

Every bite changes.

First comes sweet shrimp.

Then silky smoked salmon.

Then creamy egg salad.

Finally fresh herbs, roe, cucumber, dill, and lemon brighten every mouthful.

No single ingredient dominates.

Instead, every layer complements the next, creating a sandwich cake that's elegant enough for Sweden's finest celebrations while still feeling like something lovingly prepared at home.

A Taste of Swedish Celebration

Smörgåstårta is more than a recipe—it's a tradition. It appears when families gather, when friends celebrate milestones, and when long summer evenings invite everyone to stay at the table just a little longer.

At Swedish Cravings, we've honored that tradition by refining every detail rather than reinventing it. Soft farmhouse bread, balanced homemade fillings, carefully chosen seafood, and elegant decoration come together to create a sandwich cake that's unmistakably Swedish and worthy of life's biggest occasions.

Whether you're celebrating Midsummer, a graduation, a birthday, or simply sharing good food with people you love, we hope this Swedish Cravings Signature Smörgåstårta becomes a centerpiece of your own celebrations.

Smaklig måltid, and welcome to the taste of Sweden.
